Scrabbling

Finally! A moment to myself when neither Child One nor Child Two is MSN-ing, playing the SIMS or checking their endless emails, which are mostly chain letters which anyone over the age of 12 would delete. It's not that they're on the computer all the time - no, mostly we're out having good, clean, honest holiday fun - but when we're all in the house together, everybody wants to be on the computer at the very same moment.

A lot of people would say to themselves that the time had come to invest in a second computer. These people, however, have probably not just had their paying careers wrecked by their ex-husband. I don't think I could afford a spare set of Scrabble letters at the moment, so a laptop? Ha! No chance. Plus I feel it must be like the motorways argument - if you build more roads, you get more cars. If we had more computers, there would be more grumpy children hunched over strange virtual reality games which seem to consist of tidying up houses - why they can't do this for real in lovely Divorce Towers beats me.

Arg! I hear the stampede of tiny feet coming down the stairs. Time for another airing in the park, followed by playing for them and a coffee with a Mummy for me. It's all lovely, but what I wouldn't give for a bit of silent contemplation in front of my beloved screen, rather than yet more anguished debate on school fees (up, up and away) and house prices (down, down, deedle-um down). See you soon - I hope.

Oh I didn't realise you have to *share* your computer! That must make blogging quite a bit more difficult.

I'm just a selfish singleton (no kids, no man, no love, no nothing) but at least I can do what I like whenever I like, including hogging my own computer !!!

Enjoy it while it lasts, Goodbye. It won't be long before Cupid's bow goes ping, I'm sure!

DD - I'm of the same mind. We have but one pooter and I refuse to invest in another. DS shows every sign of some sort of computer based obesessive compulsive disorder and I don't intend to pander to it! VLiF

Wait till the little darlings are doing their GCSEs and need to spend large amounts of time typing up their coursework and cutting and pasting graphs and images. You'll never get to blog at all then!! We are a one-compute household but really ought to have at least two, as all three of us use it.

I ashamed to say we are a multiple computer house. I alone have two, one upstairs in the spare bedroom, and a laptop, which I surf the internet on.

Dh has a work laptop which he brings home with him, and I think we have four old computers downstairs, that the kids no longer use.

Dd has a laptop, she's at uni, and ds has both a desktop and a laptop from his work.

I think you should play 'Sardines' with the children - they go and hide - you find them in about 4 hours after you have had your fair share of the PC!

We got a second computer so Husband can work on it where ever he pleases. Of course he still works on the desk top in the office... whilst also firing up the laptop simultaneously.

You can't win...

Hi again Gill, nice to 'see' you. Four old computers you don't use! That makes me think - what on earth do people do with their old pooters? Rosiero, you are quite right - but probably they'll have invented some clever new gadget by the time my little ones are exam age ...Lindsay, that's an excellent suggestion, why didn't I think of it? Potty, aren't men odd? I suppose having a swanky laptop is the equivalent of go-faster stripes these days ....
